Students and staff gathered in the gym on Wednesday, Nov. 19 for the annual Heroic Vow Assembly, a celebration of this year’s Lasallian Educator of the Year, math teacher Ms. Sue Pinto ‘90, and an opportunity for the senior class to continue their commitment to Lasallian values.
The assembly opened with speeches from seniors Godwin Toku, Ben Macias, and Alexa Storie, who focused on the Lasallian core values of Faith in the Presence of God, Value the Individual, and Push Your Limits, respectively.
Next, social studies teacher Mr. Mike Doran, World Language Department Chair Ms. Lisa Moran, and senior Jayden Gilbert spoke to Ms. Pinto’s character and commitment to La Salle. They described her as someone who cares immensely for her students and the school’s broader community, and who consistently shows that care through time and effort.
After accepting her medal, Ms. Pinto spoke to her deep connection and dedication to La Salle, as someone in her 30th year of teaching at the school. She expressed gratitude for the community, especially regarding the support she received during hard times in her life.
“This school is like a family to me,” Ms. Pinto said. “It came through many times.”
The senior class then took the Heroic Vow, a Lasallian promise to act as “big brothers and big sisters” to their underclassmen and carry on the Lasallian values post-graduation. The medals given to the senior class feature an image of St. John Baptist de La Salle on one side and the words “Live Jesus in our hearts forever” on the other.
In closing, seniors Kat Marks, Liam Kean, and Addisen Lee spoke about their experiences with the remaining core values — Respect all Persons, Respond to the Poor/Overcome Injustice, and Prepare for Life — before Principal Ms. Alanna O’Brien congratulated and dismissed the students.
