Sophomore Lukas Rust was the only student from his Alder Creek Middle School class to attend La Salle.
Occasionally on Thursday nights, he volunteers at Portland Night Strike to help serve food for those experiencing homelessness.
Running and nature are big parts of his life, and he enjoys going on hikes — especially in the Columbia River Gorge — and running on local trails.
He loves reading because it gives him a new perspective that allows him to think about new ideas or different questions. He likes to walk and take care of his dogs, Finn and Lena.
His favorite class is math because the problems are challenging for him and force him to struggle and persevere to learn effectively.
He has traveled to much of Europe and is interested in learning and experiencing different cultures and foods. He hopes to someday go to Uganda and experience new perspectives and unique foods.
