The La Salle varsity baseball team scored a win against Canby High School on Tuesday, May 12 at 5 p.m. The game totaled five different home runs from both of the teams for a final score of 8-7. 

The Falcons were down 4-0 in the third inning, but were able to secure seven of their eight total runs between a grand slam from junior Dexter Harland and a three-run walkoff home run from junior Evan Hamlin. 

This victory advances the team to a total of nine league wins, with them currently being ranked No. 13 out of all 32 5A schools.

La Salle played at Canby High School on Wednesday, May 13 at 5 p.m. The team’s next game will be at home against Wilsonville High School on Friday, May 15 at 5 p.m.

Eli Batcheller is currently a senior. Eli lived in Oregon City for around 16 years, until moving to Oak Grove in the summer after his Freshman year.  His favorite part of all of his classes are his friends around him that he has been able to make. One of the most important things he finds is the community at La Salle in all aspects.  He originally chose to go to La Salle because of his older sister, and because of the quality of education compared to public school. When he got to La Salle, he found more than he expected, finding great friends and a good community that he could immerse himself in.  Eli loves listening to music and talking and spending time with his friends — some of his favorite activities being going to the river or getting clothes, especially with friends. His favorite artist is Frank Ocean, someone he has always loved.

Sophomore Lukas Rust was the only student from his Alder Creek Middle School class to attend La Salle.  Occasionally on Thursday nights, he volunteers at Portland Night Strike to help serve food for those experiencing homelessness.  Running and nature are big parts of his life, and he enjoys going on hikes — especially in the Columbia River Gorge — and running on local trails.  He loves reading because it gives him a new perspective that allows him to think about new ideas or different questions. He likes to walk and take care of his dogs, Finn and Lena.  His favorite class is math because the problems are challenging for him and force him to struggle and persevere to learn effectively.  He has traveled to much of Europe and is interested in learning and experiencing different cultures and foods. He hopes to someday go to Uganda and experience new perspectives and unique foods.
