On Friday, Jan. 31, at 7:15 p.m. the La Salle girls basketball team faced off against their rivals, the Wilsonville Wildcats.

At half-time, the Wildcats led the Falcons 15-12 in the first half, only to open the gap until the end of the game, with a final score of 69-36.

This defeat was the first league loss of the season, making their record 6-1 and leaving their OSAA 5A rank at #13. 

Next up, the Lady Falcons face off against the Canby Cougars, at Canby High school, on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m.

This year, senior Vince Faris was one of two seniors on the La Salle varsity boys basketball team, which taught him a lot about setting an example. “I think it’s how you lead rather than how many people are leading,” he said.

Senior Tabitha Obuchowski lives in Happy Valley and came to La Salle following her sister’s path. Before La Salle, Tabitha attended El Puente Elementary, a Spanish immersion school in Milwaukie and then Christ the King for middle school to be close to La Salle.  Music is very important to Tabitha as she is always open to a new genre or artist recommendation. Her interest in music started when her mom signed Tabitha up for piano lessons at three years old, and was cultivated by time spent listening to rock records with her dad, and many car rides jamming to indie music with her sister.  Not only is Tabitha the editor of the Athlete of The Week section, but you can also find her active in several communities at La Salle. She is involved in the arts as a member of the theater community, choir, and participates in the AAPI club. She has also played on the varsity volleyball team for the two past years.  Tabitha enjoys exploring nature, having visited 21 national parks with her family. She hopes to continue the path of creativity, possibly pursuing a career in theater arts or psychology because she is interested in learning about and understanding people.

Esmé Ryznar, Editor
Senior Esmé Ryznar is currently in her fifth semester of Journalism. Moving here from Alaska roughly 14 years ago, she enjoys the rainy weather and atmosphere of Oregon.  Coming to La Salle simply because her brother, Dylan Ryznar, attended, Esmé has since found herself participating in many activities, engaging in the opportunities presented to her, and loving the community at La Salle.  Esmé has played soccer since the age of four and participates in the soccer team at La Salle as well as running track in the spring. In addition to this, she is a member of the Earth Club, Pickleball Club, Keeping the Faith Club, and a few more. On the weekends, you can find Esmé playing guitar, doing her homework, playing in a soccer game, or practicing violin — an instrument she has played since the age of five. Having left the country twice, once on a road trip to Canada and once on a school trip to Spain, Esmé loves to travel and take photos, which she did a lot in Spain. She hopes to someday visit Paris and Australia, while continuing to practice photography.  In the future, Esmé hopes to attend college with her brother at Kenyon College in Ohio, where she will continue playing soccer and running.
