On Friday Nov. 10, the La Salle theater department will have its opening night for the fall play, “Steel Magnolias.”

From performers, costumers, makeup artists, property masters, set designers, sound and lighting technicians, there is a role for everyone as students and volunteers come together to put on the play.

A parent volunteer since 2016 and costumer Richelle Wilson said “I love the theater, how accepting they are of all the kids. It’s just kind of what my experience has been that anybody who comes to the theater just instantly feels like they have a family.”

Preparing for the play since early September, the cast and crew of “Steel Magnolias” have stayed late into the night, going over lines and cues and constructing the sets.

Though it is only the performers who are seen during the play, it is the work of the crew that brings the performances to life in the meticulous detailing of the sets, props, and costumes.

“I can kind of take something and run with it and make it mine and then my props kind of put my own little touch on the show,” head of the properties crew Sophie Olson said. “I like that I’m reflected in it even though I’m not actually on stage.”

The play will run for two weeks and showings are available on Nov. 10, 11,17, and 18 at 7 p.m. and on Nov. 13 and 17 at 2 p.m. as well as a special Theater Future Falcon Night showing for middle school students interested in theater at La Salle on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased online.
