Finishing up the season before districts, the La Salle girls and boys cross country teams competed in the Lewis and Clark Invitational meet at Milo McIver State Park, breaking some records while they were at it.

The entire varsity boys team ran personal records, “which is amazing to see,” senior Aidan McBride said, while three of the girls varsity runners accomplished personal records and two ran their best times this season.

Senior Sean Snow finished first for the La Salle team and ninth overall with a time of 15:54.7.

As a team, the boys finished in eighth place out of 25 teams.

Junior Maya Crimin came in first in the individual race, breaking the school record for the second time this season with a time of 18:19.7, which beat her previous record by over 40 seconds.

The girls placed in fifth place out of the 23 teams competing.

Overall this season, the girls varsity team went undefeated with a record of 8-0 in their league meets.

“I think the season is going really well,” junior Melly Riel said. “I think we have a really strong coaching staff this year and I think that they have a lot of knowledge to teach us, so I think we’ve definitely been making some big strides.”

These accomplishments have left the teams in high hopes for the coming district meet.

“We know it’s going to be a challenge to qualify for state, but it is within reach, and with today’s races we got one step closer,” Head Coach Mikel Rathmann said.

Districts will be taking place at Champoeg State Park on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
