About the Contributors

Kaitlyn Roozen, Staff Reporter
Junior Kaitlyn Roozen has lived in Portland, Oregon, her whole life, although she has had to move three different times. She enjoys the rainy weather Oregon has to offer because she finds it comforting.
Before starting her educational career at La Salle, Kaitlyn attended Saint John the Baptist from preschool all the way through 8th grade. She was inspired to come to La Salle due to the close proximity to her house and the preparation it provides for college.
Outside of La Salle, Kaitlyn enjoys playing club soccer, having done so ever since she was in 3rd grade. She also volunteers as often as possible at the Oregon Food Bank.
She loves spending time with friends and family outside of school, usually doing various things like shopping or getting food.
In the future, she hopes to attend a university on the West Coast, hopefully either in California or Washington.
Kaitlyn aims to travel more in the future as well since that is something she has loved doing with her family ever since she was young.

Zayna Elkhal, Staff Reporter
Sophmore Zayna Elkhal’s family is originally from Syria, and she loves snowboarding, dark chocolate, reading, and writing.
Before the sixth grade Elkhal despised reading and writing. She would always just stare at the book and pretend to read it during reading time. It wasn’t until the sixth grade during Covid-19 she was so bored, that she got into reading.
All it took was one good book to set her off. She now reads romance and thriller novels.
However, it wasn’t until seventh grade she started to like writing. Specifically she would write slam poetry.
Her poetry was more about how she felt. It was a way for her to express herself.
Since then, Elkhal has decided to join journalism to better her writing and comprehending skills.
