Freshman Arielle Dominitz, who goes by Arie, is looking to pave the way for more Jewish representation at La Salle with her passion for stewardship.
Dominitz attends meetings for the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization (BBYO) — a Jewish youth organization led by teens — every Monday.
She has a leadership role that entails being an influence in Judaistic programming. “I’m in charge of Jewish enrichment and Shabbat programs,” she said.
Her favorite aspect of being a part of the organization is its community. Dominitz explained that, “even though we’re all coming from different places, we still have a connecting factor which is super cool.”
Dominitz hopes to offer a similar opportunity for Jewish students in La Salle’s community. While she is not currently participating in any clubs at school, she said, “I have been wanting to start a Jewish Student Union.”
She believes “it would be [a] good leadership experience for me, but I think it would also be really cool to have Jewish representation at a Catholic school.”
As Dominitz is a freshman, she is still working to adjust to a high school environment. “I find it kind of challenging, especially with lacrosse season starting,” she said. “I’m in a couple of challenging courses right now.” Two classes that she finds particularly rigorous are Honors Algebra II/Trig and Spanish 2.
Another course in her current schedule is English 1, which she particularly enjoys due to her teacher, Mr. Greg Larson. “He just makes learning very interactive, and he’s very welcoming and funny,” she said.
Outside of the classroom, Dominitz can be found playing lacrosse, traveling with her family, or relaxing in her room.
Over spring break, Dominitz took a break from sports, and her family traveled to Belize. “We really like to travel,” she said. Dominitz named a few previously visited countries, saying “we’ve been to France, Italy, Fiji, [and] Australia.”
Dominitz travels alongside her older sister junior Adina Dominitz and her older brother Nate Dominitz, a La Salle graduate.
Having recently joined her sister Adina in high school, she has found her perspective as a junior helpful. As for her brother, “I’m pretty close with him,” she said. He currently attends Rice University in Houston, Texas. On their way home from Belize, she was delighted to be able to stop in for a few nights to spend time with him.
In Oregon, lacrosse plays a big part in her life.
For those who aren’t familiar with the sport, Dominitz described lacrosse as “a cross between soccer and hockey.”
Her time as a lacrosse player started in first grade. She currently plays defense for Ida B. Wells High School and her club team, Oregon Pride Lacrosse.
One of her biggest accomplishments in lacrosse is the success one of her teams found last spring. “This past season my club team won two championships,” she said.
In her free time, Dominitz enjoys chilling in her room and listening to music. Noah Kahan, Frank Ocean, and the Lumineers are some of Dominitz’s favorite music artists.
She has only attended one concert in her life, which was Olivia Rodrigo’s performance in August of 2024. However, she hopes to go to the Lumineers, who are coming to Bend this upcoming August.
“It’s been good, I came in not knowing anybody, but I made friends pretty fast,” Dominitz said, while reflecting on her freshman year experience so far.
For her next few years at La Salle, Dominitz hopes to take on new, challenging courses.
Her biggest piece of advice to incoming freshmen is to “try to introduce yourself to anyone that you can and take advantage of the retreat before orientation, because that was definitely helpful,” she said.
