From April 1-3, the La Salle equestrian team competed in their last meet before their state competition. This is the first year that the team has been able to go to state in person because of COVID-19 restrictions last year, which canceled the event.

“It feels really awesome,” senior Lynn Barnes said. “We had a lot of people qualify in 2020, but never had the opportunity to go because sports were shut down. So this will be the first year that a lot of us actually get to go to state.”

The team will be competing in a variety of events at their state competition, such as working pairs, drill, versatility, reining, showmanship, dressage, team sorting, and more.

Looking towards the state competition, Barnes said that she is looking forward to being there the most. “Just being able to make it and to be there with my team,” Barnes said. “Overall, I’m just really excited about it.”

An aspect of the team that Barnes likes is how supportive it is. She hopes that the team will continue throughout next year and the future.

“I’m really hoping that the team can keep growing,” Barnes said. “I know that we’ve got really amazing coaches and parents who are going to make that possible — and definitely our athletes who are going to keep this team going.”

The state competition will be from May 12-14, in Redmond, Oregon.
