Starting Monday, April 11, until Thursday, April 14, the art program will be holding an art sale located in the art classroom.

For students and parents, it will open after school and close at 6 p.m., whereas teachers may stop by during the school day.

The sale will have many different handmade pieces in many different art forms: clay art that has been made into functional pieces, like mugs, bowls, vases, and jewelry dishes, and pieces like art prints, photography, candles, T-shirts, and tote bags.

For clay pieces of art, the art is first formed from raw clay either by hand throwing or wheel throwing techniques. Then, the clay is bisque fired and finally, it is finished with a glaze. All of the clay items are food safe for functionality.

It is a student-run sale led by the National Art Honors Society (NAHS), which is a group of students that makes art for service hours and community events. Most art classes have been preparing all year for the sale.

Ms. Cha Asokan has been running art sales at the schools she has taught at for 10 years, first starting when she was in Austin, Texas and has continued this tradition here at La Salle.

“I think it’s a really good community event. A lot of times artists are making things for their portfolios or for themselves, but this is just a really good time for artists to give back and share their talents for a great cause,” Ms. Cha said.

The goal for the fundraiser is to raise $3,000 dollars. Part of the proceeds will go towards the art program and all of the supplies for students in the program, while some will also go to the Ukrainian Relief Effort.
