The app TikTok has skyrocketed in popularity since it was first launched in 2016 and has now surpassed 1.5 billion downloads.

The latest and greatest in social media is an app called TikTok, originally Musical.ly, which was relaunched with its new name in 2016. TikTok is an app that allows you to lip sync, dance or do anything your mind desires to music, including anything from the latest hits to comedy sketches.

With more than 1.5 billion downloads, it has skyrocketed in popularity among teens and even extended its reaches to some adventurous adults. Below are eleven great songs that are relatively prominent on the app and that are perfect to add to your everyday playlist.

“You Make my Dreams” – Daryl Hall and John Oates

The classic 1980s throwback was written about Hall’s then girlfriend, Sara Allen. With its upbeat tune and catchy lyrics, “You Make My Dreams” is a great kickback song.

“September” – Earth, Wind, and Fire

“September”  is a staple in pretty much any playlist. With its upbeat rhythm and tune, this song creates the perfect recipe for a song that will be stuck in your head for quite some time.

“Dissolve” – Absofacto

This indietronica song from Ann Arbor based artist, Absofacto, maintains a steady beat throughout and features vocals as well as electronic beats. This is just the song for time well spent relaxing with your friends.

“Pretty Brown Eyes” – Cody Simpson

Released in the early 2010s by every girl’s Disney Channel crush, “Pretty Brown Eyes” is just the song for when you are missing those sunny summer days.

“CAN’T GET OVER YOU” – Joji and Clams Casino

This sad love song by Joji and Clams Casino features an alternative and R&B influence while combining guitar, bass, and a groovy beat. Joji and his band, 88rising, are definitely ones to watch in the near future.

“Pretty Girl” – Clairo

With its slow and steady beat, “Pretty Girl” is the perfect song for relaxing with your friends over the upcoming winter break. Clairo is known for her bedroom-written songs and this one is no different. In fact, the YouTube video for “Pretty Girl” was filmed in her bedroom.

“Your Love is my Drug” – Kesha

Kesha’s “Your Love is my Drug” strikes out to compare romance with substance abuse. Needless to say, this song is just right for your party playlist that will keep you feeling ready for anything.

“Prom Queen “ – Beach Bunny

In Beach Bunny’s EP with the same name, they tackle the issue of feeling pretty enough. With influences of surf-pop, they pose the question of if you will ever truly get over your insecurities.

“It’s You” – Ali Gatie

Another love song to add to your winter playlist, “It’s You” has both contemporary and R&B influences. The song speaks to those who know what heartbreak is but anyone can enjoy its catchy lyrics

“Needs” – Verzache
