Donald Trump was inaugurated as the President of the United States on January 20th and he has already begun making changes in his new role in the White House. President Trump has made clear that he is going to make many changes and he is going to make them fast. Here are a few key big issues to watch for in the coming months:

  1. Changing immigration laws and building a wall on the Mexican-American border.

From the beginning of Trump’s campaign he has talked about building a wall, one which Mexico would pay for. Many people have been skeptical of his abilities to get this done but he has been giving more and more details about the project as time progresses, including taking some initial action on this today.

President Trump believes that the process can be made faster if initially paid for with taxpayer money. To make the citizens more open to paying for the wall with taxpayer money, Trump ultimately stated that the wall will, in the end, be paid for by Mexico. In fact, he has already begun this process by signing an executive action to order construction of the wall.

He said, “Mexico will pay for the wall, believe me – 100 percent – they don’t know it yet, but they will pay for the wall…They’re great people, great leaders, but they will pay for the wall.”

  1. Repealing and replacing Obamacare

Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, is a system of health care that makes it more accessible to all people. Throughout the entirety of Barack Obama’s presidency it has been very controversial and has been criticized multiple times by Donald Trump.

President Trump has made clear that one of his most important presidential goals will be to repeal and replace Obamacare, and steps toward that goal have already been take in his first few days in office.

Although there have been no specifics announced yet, President Trump has said that there will be a replacement forthcoming. About the new approach to offering health care, the most detail President Trump has given about it is to say that “[It will be] much less expensive and much better.”

  1. Instituting new tax cuts

There are currently seven federal income tax brackets for workers but one plan that President Trump has proposed would reduce that as follows:

Individuals who make $25,001 to $50,000 a year, and couples making $50,001 to $100,000, would pay 10% of federal income taxes, while keeping all their deductions and exemptions.

Individuals making $50,001 to $150,000 a year and couples making $100,001 to $300,000 would pay 20% of federal income taxes, keeping a majority of their deductions and exemptions.

And individuals making more than $150,000 and couples making more than $300,000 would pay 25% of federal income taxes, losing all of their exemptions and deductions.

President Trump has not offered specifics on how the government would make up for the loss in revenue that these tax cuts would bring about.
