New music is constantly streaming through students’ iPods and iPhones, and the school hallways are filled with students listening to their own styles of music. Music is a big part of many students’ lives, and to get a sense of what La Salle students are listening to, we asked them what artists and songs were their favorite and why. Here are some of the student body’s responses:

J. Cole is an amazing artist as well as my favorite, I like him because of his expressive and his meaningful lyrics, good beats, and how he talks about the bigger problems in life.  Not just does he inspire me, he motivates me to become the better man.”

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

“I’ve really been liking Mac Miller and Larry Fisherman, my two favorite songs right now by them are ‘100 Grandkids’ by Mac Miller because he describes his life before he becomes famous and goes in depth about it, which I think is really powerful.  ‘Simile’ by Larry Fisherman is all together just a great song.  It makes me feel happy when I listen to it and puts me in a calm mood, the song talks about his struggles which again I find powerful.”

“My favorite artist is Justin Bieber because he has changed over the years and just released out a new album that I really like and he switched up his life and that just made me think that anything is possible in life because if Justin Bieber can do it, anyone can do it.”

Evan Martin, sophomore:

“I have a lot of favorite artists, but in choosing one I would have to say Dave Grohl because of how he has created music, and how far he has come. His songs and style is classic and he continues to carry on and fulfill a dying genre of music.”

Regan Russell, senior:

“My favorite song is Trouble by Halsey because it’s a different style of music than I normally listen to. I normally listen to the songs on the radio or the ones that are popular, but I found this song on Spotify and I liked how different it was. Another one of my favorite artists is Justin Bieber because he went away for a while and just had a huge comeback with his new Purpose album which has some really great songs I like as well!”

Joel Simmons, junior:

“My favorite artist would have to be J Cole.  He isn’t like most other rappers, he touches on other things besides women, money and illegal substances.  He focuses on real life situations and tries to touch the youth and connect with his listeners as much as possible.  Throughout his songs, he touches on the struggle of life and the tough journey in order to live a successful life .  He doesn’t just make it about negatives in life.  He tries to give hope to his young listeners and allows them to see that there is a bright side after all the negatives.  As well as having a story behind every song, he is a good rapper and knows how to intrigue others to listen to his music and inspire many.”

“My favorite musical artist is Justin Bieber. He has very good vocals, acoustic and live. I can total tune out when I’m listening to music and always relieves my stress. Whether it’s his new album or his old ones, his music always makes me very happy.”
