As part of our Student of the Week feature, one student is profiled for their outstanding academic achievements and involvement at La Salle.

Four months into his sophomore year, Nuutti Barron maintains an impressive GPA and is involved in Honors Algebra 2 and Trigonometry, Honors English 2, French 2, AP Physics (as an elective), Honors Chemistry and Christology.  He is also playing club soccer in his free time and was a part of the JV soccer team here at La Salle.  As part of our Student of the Week feature, we interviewed Nuutti Barron to get a sense of how the school year has been, how he challenges himself and advice for his peers:

What is your strategy for balancing school and outside activities?

  • “When balancing school and other activities, I rarely will skip outside activities for schoolwork, if I know I am able to complete the schoolwork I need to finish in the time I have. This usually ends up in me staying up later into the night finishing homework however, but focusing on my own activities helps maintain balance so I do not end up discouraged from schoolwork.”

What colleges and majors seem interesting to you?

  • “I haven’t looked into many colleges yet because that decision will come in a few years for me, but right now I am interested in majors involving engineering, science, or working towards a medical degree. This can and mostly likely will change in the future however because you cannot plan you life out that far with certainty.”

Is it stressful taking three honors classes and an AP class? If so, how do you manage your stress?

  • “I don’t find it too stressful taking these classes, because they were my own choice to take them knowing there would be more work in taking them. I also take pride in how I do in school and find it important, which when I remember helps me when I feel stressed out. Outside school activities, mostly club soccer, helps relieve this stress too.”

What do you do in order to maintain such a high GPA?

  • “I do my best to finish all the homework I am given and do well on tests and important essays which affect my grades more. Not only doing the work but also making sure I understand the material from the classes is important.”

How do you balance your schedule?

  • “I plan after school activities so that I have time to do schoolwork, but if they interfere I will usually end up staying up late into the night finishing homework, because after school activities gives the balance that keeps me motivated to do well in school.”

What is your motivation and what advice can you give to people looking for motivation?

  • “My motivation comes from my thought on how important grades are, which makes them seems important in my life, which makes me want to maintain them as good as I can. Doing what makes you happy outside of school helps too.”
