Technology Problems: No Problem

Mr. Heineck gives technology advice

Technology Problems: No Problem

Mr. Heineck, technology teacher and also La Salle’s network administrator, has some helpful hints in case students are still experiencing technical difficulties with the iPads.

First he addresses what to do if apps are not functioning correctly. “Step one is to close out of the app. If it still not behaving properly after you close out of the app, [the next step] is to turn off the WiFi and turn it back on.” If none of the above has worked, students might need to reboot their iPad.

He goes on to say, “We see that probably about every two three weeks students should be rebooting their iPad.” If you are technologically challenged and need help, stop by Mr. Heinick’s office or the Tech Nest, which are both conveniently in the library.

Next he went on to talk about Google Docs and Notability. With Notability, he would like to “encourage students to turn on automatic back ups in Notability, [be]cause it’s not a default setting.” By doing this, students are able to access notes even if they don’t have their iPad. For instance, this would protect a student’s work in case their iPad was lost or damaged.

He then stated that if students are using Google Docs to write papers, to make sure “[that they] pin the document to the device.”

He also recommends Pages, a free word processing app, and “we recommend [that] students to use Pages, because Pages works great.”

Pinning the document or using Pages allows for a student to work on an essay or homework assignment when not on WiFI.
