As sports competition continues throughout the year, the Falconer staff look forward to finding a new athlete to feature every week who represents our sports teams.

With the 2014-2015 basketball season now underway, Mekel Tarbet says the hopes are high for a basketball state championship.

How do you feel your team will do going into the 2014-2015 season?
“I think we’re going to do really good this year, maybe lose a few games, but win the majority.”

What has been your best memory doing this sport for La Salle so far?
“Summer ball adventures brought us together and going on team dinners to Sonic and getting ice cream really helped bond our team which made us play better.”

What are you looking forward to most this season?
“Hopefully going to state and winning a title.”

What do you think your team will have to overcome in order to succeed this season?
“People doubting us as we move up to 5A. But don’t worry, we’re going to make a statement this year.”

Who will have the greatest impact on your teams success this year and why?
“We have a lot of impact players on our team, one of them being Keeston Smith, a six foot six senior. He pushes people, it’s just what he does. His work ethic is unreal and it shows a lot about him that he has only missed one practice in his whole high school career. I’m looking forward to him doing big things in his last season at La Salle before he goes to Army college.”

How do you feel about the coaches and what kind of impact do you think they will ned to have to have a winning season?
“The coaches will need to push us past the limit so we can overcome the challenges of moving up to 5A.”

What will YOU need to do to have a greater impact for your team this season?
“Keep everyone’s morale up and stay positive. That is the greatest thing I can present to my team.”
