On Thursday, May 16, the La Salle track and field team drove down to Eugene to compete in the OSAA State Championship meet. On Friday, under the clear and sunny skies at Hayward, 13 athletes from La Salle participated in nine different track and field events.
Preliminary rounds for sprinting events such as the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter events took place on Friday, as well as finals for longer events such as the 3000m.
On Saturday, May 18, athletes competed in finals for the 100 meter and other sprinting events along with the relays (4x100m and 4x400m), and medals were presented to the top eight finishers. Field events were spread out over the two days as well.
Overall, the boys team took third in state, with the boys 4×100 team (seniors Milan Cieslak and Aidan Melbinger, and sophomores Jayden Gilbert and Cooper Eldon) taking first place — breaking the school record for the third time and setting a new 5A meet record.
The Girls team took 18th in the state, with Jasmine McIntosh taking third in the 200 meter and fourth in the 100 meter.
Other notable finishers were Milan Cieslak taking second place in the 100 and 200 meter; Drew Beymer taking sixth in high jump; Manusha Tanzambi taking seventh place in shot put; and Maya Crimin taking sixth in the 3000m.
