Whether it’s rap, metal, or plain old classic rock, music is a perfect way to set the mood before a game or practice.

This article includes songs with explicit content.

These songs are meant for La Salle athletes that need a musical pick me up before their game to help get them in the right headspace prior to competing. If you’re into different types of music before your game, don’t worry — we have three different genres with five songs each to pick from.

Rap

First Day Out” by Tee Grizzley

When getting ready for your sporting event this song gets your adrenaline going and inspires a desire for the downfall of your opponents. “First Day Out” by Tee Grizzley is known as the pre-game song. It never fails to get you into a mood to never give up — no matter what sport you play.

Dreams and Nightmares” by Meek Mill

This song starts off slow before gradually growing to a loud and aggressive rhythm, getting you ready and locked in for your athletic event. When you don’t feel your best, this song will shake you back into spirit.

“Barry Bonds” by Kanye West

“Barry Bonds” has a low tempo and will get you thinking that you are the best, just like Barry Bonds, who was widely known as one of the best MLB hitters of all time. This song does him justice by producing a song that knocks it out of the park.

“X Gon’ Give It To Ya” by DMX

This song is a classic. It never fails to produce an excellent pre-game experience. Released in 2002, DMX didn’t know he was making one of the most iconic pregame songs of all time. This song gives lyrics that are perfect for pregame mentality and gives a rhythm that is unique and builds hype.

“See You Again” by Tyler, The Creator

While this isn’t a typical song you would listen to when getting ready for a game due to its slower pace and rhythm, it nonetheless remains one of the best for creating a mood to get you hyped. Whether you’re moved by the song or not, it is always a good song to listen to.

Country

“Dirt Road Anthem” by Jason Aldean

“Dirt Road Anthem” is a good song just to sit and listen to when you want to get into the right mood and need to get ready for your game. With lyrics that are excellent, what really makes the song so special is the vocal performance. The heart that Aldean sings with is what makes this song worth its while in your pregame playlist.

“God’s Gonna Cut You Down” by Johnny Cash

An old song that gets the job done. The term “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” is an old folk phrase referring to how no one can escape death and that we will all feel judgment one day. When you’re playing your game, remember that nobody can escape death — don’t be afraid to give your all.

“A Country Boy Can Survive” by Hank Williams, Jr.
