The La Salle swim team has put in hours of work in the pool this season to get to the spot they’re at now: heading to the state meet after great results from districts.

This past weekend, on Feb. 11 and 12, the swim team competed at Parkrose High School for the district meet, and a total of 16 swimmers qualified for the State meet that is occurring this Friday, Feb. 18 at Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center.

At the district meet, the girls came up with a first-place victory and the boys finished with the third-place title.

Several swimmers qualified for state by winning their individual events at districts this past weekend. Freshman Kayla Chapman got first place in the girls 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle. Junior Nik Jelusic also placed first in the boys 100-yard breaststroke, and junior Emilio Silva also got first place in the boys 100-yard freestyle. Among the district champions is also freshman Rowan Mozena, who got first place in the girls 100-yard breaststroke.

Relay events that qualified to swim at state include the girls medley relay, which is made up of sophomore Rachel Yaskovic, senior Meiruh Tengsico, freshman Caitlin Keeler, and sophomore Gabby Wolfe. Both the 200 yard and 400-yard girls freestyle relays qualified for the state meet as well, which consist of Yaskovic, Keeler, Wolfe, and Chapman.

Additionally, the boys 400-yard and 200-yard freestyle relay also qualified for State. The members of the 200-yard freestyle relay include juniors Nik Jelusic, Emilio Silva, Robert Brotherton, and Aidan McCarthy. The 400-yard freestyle relay consists of Jelusic, Silva, McCarthy, and Charlie Dougherty.
