Currently ranked 10th in state, La Salle’s varsity volleyball team is in a good position to confidently enter the playoffs, coming off of a 3-0 win on the road against Milwaukie yesterday.

Consisting of four freshmen, two sophomores, seven juniors, and two seniors, the team has achieved a record of 12-6 in the 5A-1 Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC).

Head coach Chijo Takeda says that “the season is going fairly well with the exception of some roller coaster rides including dips in performance along with a string of injuries.” Senior captain Kacie Redmond describes the season so far as “fun and memorable.” Junior Trinity Pisarsky says she has been “happy with how [they] have overcome [their] hurdles to come out as a stronger and more confident team.”

With an ankle injury to freshman Maggie Gabrish, former freshman JV player Sarah Wease has been added to the varsity roster for the remainder of the season. Takeda has been impressed with the freshmen, as they bring “a hunger for the game that is having a positive impact on [the] team. Their high commitment level and great work ethic have resulted in all four of them starting at various times.”

Also impressed is Redmond, who expresses that the new members of the team “have brought fun memories and so much talent.

Looking into the playoffs, Takeda refers back to the roller coaster nature, saying that there have been “issues surrounding our mental game.” This was due to “lapses in mental fortitude and aggressive competitive attitude during games.” Takeda says that the team must build and improve their mentalities entering into the playoffs and for the rest of the season.

Pisarsky is confident going into the playoffs, hoping to do “truly amazing things and end on a really good note.” She is also looking forward to playing teams outside of their conference.
