Mr. George Becomes Principal at Christ the King

Lyndsay Riehl, Staff Reporter

Mr. George, the beloved 10 year La Salle teacher and football coach, has left La Salle to become the principal at Christ the King, effective October 1st.

Mr. George is “ready for [the] challenge and will learn and grow in the CTK community and better understand himself in the process,” Mr. Kuffner said. The position opened late this summer when the previous CTK principal received a job at Clackamas High School as vice principal.

Mr. George has a long family history at La Salle, noting that his dad “worked at the school for 36 years and was thoroughly involved. He taught English, personal finance, social studies, [was a] college counselor (our school’s 1st one), vice principal, dean of students, athletic director, admissions director, assistant football coach, head baseball coach, facilities director and principal.”

When talking about his career as a teacher Mr. George says that he is “passionate about Catholic education and I want to make a positive impact in the lives of students, teachers and families who invest in this work.”

As an alumni graduating in 1997 who has participated as an assistant football coach, assistant and head basketball coach, teacher of biology, integrated science, Health 1 & 2, environmental science, and served as one of the founders of Falcon Formation, and as an administrative intern, Mr. George was clearly very involved and dedicated to the La Salle community.

“Mr. George has been deeply committed to the mission of La Salle and has distinguished himself as a Lasallian,” Mr. Kuffner said.

Mr. Kuffner’s advice to Mr. George for his new role is to “Have fun and enjoy the students. This is a ministry and a vocation so therefore a blessing!”

The connection Mr. George has with his students and his passion in being involved around the school is seen everyday by his coworkers and students. One of his former students, Nora Vanvleet, had him for Health 1 and said that she “liked how he engaged with his students and how he positively interacted with them.”

When talking about why he decided to take the job, Mr. George said that he has been “very impressed with the students who graduated from [Christ the King] in addition to those who currently attend and their faculty and staff are very dedicated and work well together.”

Mr. Kuffner noted in particular Mr George’s commitment to the La Salle hallway banners: “He is humble and gentle and his quiet, calm, affirming and direct demeanor will be missed!” Mr. Kuffer also said that his he has “faith and trust that Chris will serve the Christ the King community with his entire heart and soul” as he begins a new chapter in his life.

Even though he is leaving, Mr. George says that he will always have a deep connection to the school: “I grew up here, went to school and worked here for most of my life. It feels like home and I’m guessing it will feel strange for a while to be working next door.”
