The La Salle varsity boys soccer team hosted 6A South Salem High School in their second non-league game on Monday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. The Falcons got out to an early lead scoring two goals in the first half. 

The Saxons responded quickly with a goal of their own, and they went back and forth until the final whistle. The game ended in a 2-1 victory in favor of La Salle, with goals being scored by junior Hugo Cortes Cruz and senior Luka Skoro. 

They are scheduled to host rival Jesuit High School on Monday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m.

Eli Batcheller is currently a senior. Eli lived in Oregon City for around 16 years, until moving to Oak Grove in the summer after his Freshman year.  His favorite part of all of his classes are his friends around him that he has been able to make. One of the most important things he finds is the community at La Salle in all aspects.  He originally chose to go to La Salle because of his older sister, and because of the quality of education compared to public school. When he got to La Salle, he found more than he expected, finding great friends and a good community that he could immerse himself in.  Eli loves listening to music and talking and spending time with his friends — some of his favorite activities being going to the river or getting clothes, especially with friends. His favorite artist is Frank Ocean, someone he has always loved.

Senior Esmé Ryznar is currently in her second semester of Journalism. Moving here from Alaska roughly 14 years ago, she enjoys the rainy weather and atmosphere of Oregon.  Coming to La Salle simply because her brother, Dylan, attended, Esmé has since found herself participating in many activities, engaging in the opportunities presented to her, and loving the community at La Salle.  Esmé has played soccer since the age of four, and participates in the soccer team at La Salle as well as running track in the spring. In addition to this, she is a member of the Earth Club and Pickleball Club. On the weekends, you can find Esmé playing guitar, doing her homework, playing in a soccer game, or practicing violin — an instrument she has played since the age of five. Only having left the country once on a road trip to Canada, Esmé hopes to someday visit Paris and Australia. She also plans to visit every state in the U.S. during her life.    In the future Esmé hopes to attend college, possibly in California, and pursue a career in science and nature.
