Lucy Dacus’ fourth solo album, “Forever Is A Feeling,” feels like a 13-track glance at an old diary — a stack of drafted but never-sent love letters and confessions.
Dacus opens up a deeply personal space for us to peer into.
Released on March 28, the album signifies a refined progression for the singer-songwriter and Boygenius alum. Featuring contributions from bandmate and recently announced partner, Julien Baker, the record delves into the complexities of love: its tenderness, volatility, and the unrelenting grip it holds on us.
Dacus blends chamber-pop orchestration with her trademark vocals, which can’t help but be imbued with honesty and authenticity. Drawing from a diverse mix of genres — including folk, rock, and baroque pop — “Forever Is A Feeling” creates lovely and lush arrangements that perfectly pair with her classic, evocative storytelling.
Lighter and more ethereal than “Home Video,” her third studio album, or “The Record,” Boygenius’ debut, this release is infused with a raw, aching honesty. Despite being her most refined record to date, it remains deeply emotional and vulnerable. Written and recorded while touring with Boygenius — a group that has now disbanded — “Forever Is A Feeling” captures the universal sentiments of love, longing, and the inevitability of change.
Overall, “Forever Is A Feeling” offers a delicate, heartfelt exploration of love’s ever-changing nature. It’s an album that lingers long after the last note fades out, just like the feelings it so eloquently captures.
