Senior Paul Skoro has been playing basketball since he was five years old.
Skoro was influenced by his family to start playing basketball and, growing up, Skoro’s father played an important role in his love for the sport. Inspired by watching his father’s old games, Skoro wanted to follow in his footsteps.
Skoro believes that listening is an important quality when it comes to improving in basketball. Skoro said he enjoys observing other players more skilled than him, explaining that he aims to “watch what they do and try to apply it to myself.”
Skoro appreciates the joy that comes from playing basketball. He values playing with friends and stays motivated by setting goals to achieve throughout the season.
In addition to playing basketball, Skoro also participates in La Salle football, a community he has been a part of since freshman year.
One of the most memorable moments in Skoro’s football journey came during his senior season when received a piece of the football during the senior ceremony, a token that now hangs on his keychain.
“It just makes me remember all the hard moments,” he said.
Family is very important to Skoro. Coming from a big family, Skoro has formed close bonds with his siblings and cousins. He cherishes the support from his family and finds time to spend with his siblings, whether that be playing sports or battling in video games.
Even though his two older siblings are in college, he has remained very close to them, managing to see them often. In the future, he hopes to live near his family so that his kids can have tight relationships with their cousins just as he did.
Skoro’s decision to attend La Salle was influenced by his older siblings, who attended previously.
At La Salle, Skoro has discovered his love for the Leadership class. One of his favorite responsibilities is planning assemblies, but most of all he enjoys the fun environment, a quality he attributes to Director of Community & Student leadership Ms. Adrianna Noesi, who teaches the class.
“It doesn’t feel like school when she’s around. It’s just like fun, lighthearted,” he said. “She’s very bubbly.”
In his free time, Skoro listens to all types of music, whether it is country, rap, or pop, but he especially enjoys listening to his favorite artist, Lil Tjay.
One of Skoro’s favorite places to visit is Croatia, which holds a lot of significance for him, as he travels there every summer to see his family. One memory he cherishes is when he visited Croatia for the very first time.
“Seeing my grandparents for the first time, just going up to their house, meeting them and just immediately feeling the connection towards them,” he said.
Looking ahead, Skoro’s goals are clear: decide on a college and help his team win a state basketball championship.
He advises incoming freshmen to find their own community just as he has, “whether it’s joining a sports team or club or just [being] involved in something that lets you meet more people,” he said.
