The annual celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the beginning of Advent began on Wednesday, Dec. 11 in the form of a Mass.

The mass started with a celebration of Our Lady, with various volunteers placing an offering of roses at the base of a portrait of Mary. It then proceeded like an routine Mass, organized by the UNIDOS student affinity group alongside the support of the other affinity groups, as well as the Director of Campus Ministry Mr. Carter Powers, Campus Ministry Associate Ms. Bri Freitas, and the leadership class.

Esmé Ryznar, Assistant Editor
Junior Esmé Ryznar is currently in her second semester of Journalism. Moving here from Alaska roughly 14 years ago, she enjoys the rainy weather and atmosphere of Oregon.  Coming to La Salle simply because her brother, Dylan, attended, Esmé has since found herself participating in many activities, engaging in the opportunities presented to her, and loving the community at La Salle.  Esmé has played soccer since the age of four, and participates in the soccer team at La Salle as well as running track in the spring. In addition to this, she is a member of the Earth Club and Pickleball Club. On the weekends, you can find Esmé playing guitar, doing her homework, playing in a soccer game, or practicing violin — an instrument she has played since the age of five. Only having left the country once on a road trip to Canada, Esmé hopes to someday visit Paris and Australia. She also plans to visit every state in the U.S. during her life.    In the future Esmé hopes to attend college, possibly in California, and pursue a career in science and nature.

Roland Zuments, Staff Reporter
Sophomore Roland Zuments joined the La Salle community in 2023, and currently is in his first semester in journalism. Aside from his involvement in The Falconer, Roland also participates in the Speech and Debate team for La Salle, hoping to refine his existing speaking skills and use them to gain success in tournaments. Roland also has many out of school activities he enjoys, such as archery. He can be found at local archery ranges with his favorite old-school bow. History is another one of Roland’s hobbies. He loves to educate himself by listening to “The History of Everything Podcast,” which covers various historical topics in an entertaining way, with Roman history being Roland’s favorite historical topic. When he isn't practicing his archery or learning about history, Roland can be found playing Fallout 76 with his friends online. In the future, Roland wants to attend the University of Oregon and hopefully pursue a medical career.
