On Friday, Sept. 20, La Salle students met on the track to explore various clubs run by their classmates, and were encouraged to talk to club leaders and sign up for any they were interested in.
One club, run by juniors Evan O’Neil and Jayden Gilbert, is the Boys Volleyball Club.
“This is our second year of having a boys volleyball team at La Salle, so we’d really like to have more people involved,” O’Neil said.
Another club, All Minds All Bodies, run by senior Avari Brocker, was started for the purpose of giving students with disabilities a better school experience. All Minds All Bodies is open to anyone interested in being an ally and anyone with a visible or invisible disability.
“During the school year, we’re really just going to be working on making assistive technology and accommodations more accessible to people,” Brocker said. “We are going to be planning the celebration of disability awareness month in March.”
The Hacky Sack Club, started by sophomores Nora Hudson, Eliana Schug, and Lucy Schuster, began due to a love of hacky sack within their friend group. Their plans for the year include “meeting up at breaks, lunches, and flexes to have some fun and hack,” Schug said.
This year, juniors Ashley Kamhoot and Ali Moran revived the Earth Club, which ran in the past but didn’t last year.
“The Earth is really important and La Salle can do more to help save our environment,” Kamhoot said. Kamhoot, who is also leading the First Aid and Safety Club, explained that their goals for the year within the Earth Club include planting trees, cleaning up trash, planning drives to help the community, and encouraging the use of reusable dishes in the cafeteria.
“We’re hoping to do a lot of service projects and service opportunities for kids to also get service hours while helping our environment,” Moran said.
