On Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25, the La Salle boys tennis team competed in the OSAA Boys Tennis State Championship, with two of their doubles teams qualifying, seniors Aidan McBride and Ryder McCoy-Hansen and seniors Breslin and Eldon Nichols, as well as singles player freshman Kaiden Harris for a chance to compete in the state tournament.
Classmates and friends came to watch and cheer on Saturday as the Nichols twins played their semifinal match in hopes to make it to the finals. Unfortunately, they lost against Summit View High School’s #1 doubles team 2-6, 2-6, but they then beat Summit’s #2 doubles team in a three set tiebreaker match, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, to win the title of doubles 3rd place state champions.
McBride and McCoy won their semifinals match against Summit’s #2 doubles to then play in the finals against the Summit team that the twins lost against. They won, 6-2, 6-3, making them the doubles state champions.
Harris played and beat Crescent Valley High School’s #1 singles, Richard Wang, in a final, three set tie breaker match, 6-4, 5-7,6-3, that led him to become the singles state champion.
From all of the wins, the boys tennis team were able to claim for the first time the title of being 5A state champions.
