On Thursday, March 14, the Multivariable Vector Calculus class held a pie sale to celebrate International Pi Day. For a period of time before the sale, posters were hung in the hallway to advertise how students could get a free slice.
During both A and B lunch, slices of apple pie were sold for $3.14 — the number pi is commonly rounded to. There was also an option to recite 35 digits of pi to get a free slice, which multiple people were able to do.
For the week leading up to the sale, seniors Kaden Nguyen and Nate Wyatt made announcements over the loudspeaker reminding students of the sale, as well as the memorization opportunity.
Math parodies of popular songs were played during the sale, including “Calculus Rhapsody” and “I Will Derive.”
The proceeds from the sale went towards La Salle’s Better Together fundraiser as a late donation. “I think we calculated we made $44, when you account for the price of the pie itself,” Wyatt said.
Correction: A previous version of this article stated the sale took place on March 16 when it took place on March 14.
