On the night of Friday, Sept. 29, La Salle’s first Open Mic Night of the year took place, which was also junior Charlie Lewy’s Eagle Project. The event occurred in La Salle’s theater from 7-9 p.m., and gave many members of the La Salle community a chance to sit back, relax, and listen to the performances.
“It’s a chance for people to just get on stage and do whatever they want to do,” Performing & Fine Arts Department Chair, Choir & Guitar Teacher, and Religious Studies Teacher Mr. Otto Wild said.
Open Mic Night serves as a positive, relaxed, and inviting environment for everyone involved. The crowd was filled with many encouraging members of the community who provided their support to the performers throughout the night.
“A chance for fun, a chance for people to perform in a loving supporting environment, good thing to do on a Friday night,” Mr. Wild said.
With 14 performers taking the stage throughout the night, each brought something unique and different than the last. There was a wide range in performances, including an expertly executed French poem, piano songs, an electric guitar solo that reverberated through the whole theater with teen rock band vibes, and a song by English teacher Mr. Greg Larson that had the whole crowd erupting with applause.
One performance from senior Nate Broudy got the whole crowd clapping and singing along with his karaoke version of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
“I really loved Open Mic Night as a student, but I never performed,” said Mr. Larson, who is a returning performer at Open Mic Night. “I liked that school can provide a place to hang out.”
This night was full of loud and supportive cheering from everyone in the music-filled theater.
Ultimately, Open Mic Night brings a stress-free experience for anyone who loves the art of performing, as well as an exciting Friday night for the audience members.
