On Friday, Sept. 22, the La Salle varsity football team and cheer team hosted Milwaukie High School on Future Falcon Night. The game concluded with a final score of 7-6 with the Falcons reeling in the win.
With a tight running game, the boys were able to pull out the win by obtaining their only touchdown, though not without a fight. The Milwaukie Mustangs had matched the Falcons with a 2-1 game played overall, making the two teams a formidable matchup for one another. “I think it’s gonna be a good game and I think both teams are gonna play hard,” senior Daniel Rodriguez said before the game. “It’s gonna be a competition, but I think we got it in the bag.”
With all the Future Falcons, the football and cheer teams showcased the community La Salle has to offer throughout the night. “I hope they think about our student section and our community because I think that’s one of the best parts about our sporting events,” Rodriguez said.
Alongside the student section was the cheer team that led the prospective Falcons in some of their cheers and taught them some new stunts.
“I hope that they learn something about cheer and maybe have an interest in doing it when they come to high school because I feel like a cheer team for high school is a really important aspect and the more the cheer team grows, the better it can become,” senior Brooke Posner said.
“When you join the football team, everyone’s fun and we all just include and love each other,” senior Chris Rusth said.
When Rodriguez attended Future Falcon night when he was in eighth grade, he remembered meeting all the players and seeing the amazing atmosphere that the school had when they won. “[Going to Future Falcon Night] definitely made me want to play football more. Just seeing the whole camaraderie and the community and the community and everyone coming together to watch the games definitely made me more interested in it,” said Rodriguez.
