On September 14, La Salle gathered to celebrate the first Mass of the school year. Socially distanced, La Salle’s students and staff were seated on the football field’s turf, making it the first school-wide use of the newly installed turf.

“Yesterday’s all day school Mass was a tremendous gift,” Director of Faith Mr. Gary Hortsch said. “To gather in person for the first time in over 18 months helps keep perspective on the blessings of each moment, being alive, and certainly for the gift of being in community.”

The service was performed by Father Marshall, a pastor at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.

“Father Marshall’s homily reminded us that within the spirit is truth,” Mr. Hortsch said. “We maintain different perspectives and carry forward divergent life experiences. However, when we gather in prayer and intentionally call upon God to see through the lens of faith, we see the world differently. The values of the material world fade as we realize the divine spark that is in each and everyone of us. Power, money, and fame are all fleeting. God’s love for which is available to us is enduring,” Hortsch said.
