TikTok, a social media platform where users create and watch short videos, often popularizes songs through its ever-fluctuating trends.

The following article includes music containing explicit content.

The popular video-sharing platform TikTok is well-known for its admired creators, weirdly funny videos, and relatable content, but should also be recognized for the music broadcasted behind the videos.

Trending sounds and songs change at a hyper-quick speed on the platform, introducing new artists and reviving some that have been forgotten.

Even if you don’t have the app, you may recognize some of these songs.

Here are nine of the best songs that TikTok has introduced to me or reminded me about.

“Put Your Records On” – Ritt Momney

This revival of the classic “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae puts an angelic, glitter-like spin on the original R&B song. Whether your mood is good or bad, this cover is one that should be put on repeat.

“you broke me first” – Tate McRae

We all have days when the world feels like it’s falling apart. Between the lyrics, the vocals, and the instrumentals of this single, themes of overcoming obstacles and finding strength can be derived from this tune.

“Renee” – SALES

This song is an example of one that was released years ago, but it has become more widely known recently because of TikTok. When you need a little spark of motivation, this is the song to turn to with only good, calming tones.

“Josslyn” – Olivia O’Brien

Before this song blew up, it was one I constantly streamed, because it reminded me of my worth. This song should not be sung, but screamed, with windows down and your hair blowing in the wind while driving fast down a freeway.

“Midnight City” – M83

The best way to describe this electric beat-filled song is as one that makes you feel nostalgic over something that hasn’t happened. Though it was released nine years ago, this song should still take a spot on everyone’s “unforgettable feelings” playlist.

“Dead To Me” – Kali Uchis

If you listened to this song before you heard it on TikTok, let’s be friends. With Uchis’ mesmerizing voice, this song creates a galactic sound full of confidence and power.

“Tadow” – Masego & FKJ

There hasn’t been a day in years where I haven’t listened to this song. No matter if you’re driving, doing homework, laying in bed, or doing chores, the instrumentals of this song will relax you. I truly believe this song will forever be timeless.

“feel something” – Bea Miller

There are certain songs that you hear once and immediately feel connected to. In a world compromised by social media, politics, and flooded with stress, many people experience feeling lost and losing their sense of self. This song dives deep into those feelings of just wanting to feel “normal.”

“Ride” – Lana Del Rey

When a remix of this song blew up on TikTok, I immediately recognized this dreamy and raw piece of art. This song reminds me of freedom and of how truly lucky I am to be where I am today. The instrumentals mixed with Del Rey’s dewy, passionate vocals creates an anthem for thrill-seekers, outcasts, and those who feel isolated. Everyone who has experienced euphoric highs and hit rock bottoms should add this song to their playlist.
