La Salle’s annual “Night on Broadway” returns to the stage this Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m.

The event is being put together by the Equality Alliance and other students at La Salle, many of whom also participate in the drama department. Senior Olivia Cooley and sophomore Egan Arntson took on the role of directors for the production with the help of other students. They are involved with casting, scheduling, and other organizational aspects for the event.

The production will include a variety of different acts, the majority of them being singing and dancing to music from Broadway productions. There will be multiple group numbers and solos from students, as well as a performance from La Salle’s dance team, with twenty performances in total.

The group performances in the event vary in style. There are dance numbers, such as an act choreographed by sophomore Aislinn McCarthy from the show Newsies, and solos, such as ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ from the show Les Misérables.

Throughout the two week rehearsal process, each individual act, along with the group numbers, was choreographed and directed by the participants. Costumes and props are also completely decided on by the individual performers. “We’re leaving it in the hands of the students,” Cooley said. “So that they can kind of have their own creative liberties.”

Cooley is looking forward to “seeing everything come together… [the performers] have made a lot of progress over just a couple days.”

Arntson said that the goal of the event is to raise money for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as to “have people who don’t really experience theater actually go out and have fun performing in front of others.”

The benefit is expected to run for about an hour and forty five minutes, with an intermission. All tickets will be sold at the door on the night of the event for $5 each. Additional donations are also accepted at the door.
