Playing two sports while maintaining a 3.98 GPA may seem difficult, but with the help of teachers and family, Megan Lyver is able to do just that. Megan is a varsity soccer and softball player and excels as a student.

She is currently taking Honors Algebra 2, Honors Chemistry, Honors Spanish III, and AP English III and has an impressive 3.98 GPA. “I really enjoy my hard classes because they will prepare me for college and later in life and they will help me with time management in general,” Megan says.

Megan’s favorite subject is Spanish. Even though it is hard learning another language, Megan enjoys learning from all the teachers she’s had and uses her time wisely. She focuses extra in this class since it is an honors course.

Excelling at La Salle Prep may seem difficult, but Megan says Mr. Swanson has been one of the many teachers that has helped her along the way. “He makes me want to be the best person I can be and says it’s okay to make mistakes,” Megan explains. Megan’s mom also helps her by keeping her sane and helping her keep track of time.

“I do my homework in my free time and try to stay caught up in all of my classes,” Megan says when asked how she balances academics and athletics. Taking hard classes has taught her that school comes first and sports come second, but she knows to take them both seriously.

Along with a rigorous academic course, Megan is involved with soccer and softball which takes up a lot of her time after school. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends in between school and extracurricular activities. While this takes up a lot of time, she knows that learning these time management skills now will help her throughout her life.

After high school, Megan wants to get a degree in Pre-med and then go into pediatrics. Some of her favorite courses include the science classes she’s taken which makes her know medicine is the type of job she wants. She also loves hanging out with kids, and she thinks it will be fun to see little kids all day at work and help heal them.

As for colleges, her top two choices are Carroll College and George Fox. The nursing programs are very advanced and she hopes it will help her succeed in her future jobs. They are also appealing to her because of the soccer and softball programs. After playing sports for her entire childhood, she knows she wants to continue playing in college.
