Sophomore Reese Timm Attacks the Glass this Season
January 25, 2017
Reese Timm, a sophomore, has quickly shown her dedication when it comes to basketball. As only a freshman, she made the varsity team, and fell right into place with the older girls, becoming a starting power forward. She has been playing since a young age, and continues to push herself to the next level by preparing to play on a college team.
Fifth grade was when her journey began. Reese only started to play because she had friends on her middle school’s team and she wanted to participate in a sport with them. This is when her passion began.
She played all through middle school, and when deciding which high school to go to, La Salle appealed to her because of the success of the girls basketball team in recent years. Before coming to La Salle, basketball was a major part of her life and continues to be in high school.
Reese was nervous to be on the top level team for La Salle because a lot of the other girls are very experienced, but was ultimately glad that she got to be a part of the “family,” telling that they were, “super open and inclusive.” She had also known the girl’s coach before high school, which made the transition easier as well.
However, this level of success did not come easy. In addition to having natural talent, Reese practices in and outside of school. Six days a week the team meets for two hours, but she goes beyond even this. All together, Reese says she practices fourteen to sixteen hours a week, and as a result, determination and sweat both play a key role in maintaining her skills.
Reese continues to put in a lot of effort into basketball because of the community it creates. “I love making memories with my teammates,” she said, “that is the main reason I play.”
Reese’s ultimate goal is to continue her basketball career by playing in college. Her hope is to get a scholarship to one of her two favorite colleges of the moment: University of Washington or UCLA. These are both great schools, and she will not back down in her training and spirit until she achieves her goal.
Throughout all her years of playing, even at a young age, she has gained some wisdom in this particular field. There are plenty of young people striving to achieve great levels of success in sports, but not all will prevail. Reese’s advice to those on their way up is this: “Work hard and focus on what you are trying to get better at.”
