Walkathon Update

Walkathon+Update

As hopefully every student is well aware of by now, this year marks a change in school fundraising for La Salle. In place of selling apples and wreaths, like the previous years, students are now participating in a Walkathon, which is fast approaching.

The walk will take place this Friday, Sept. 18th from 8:50 am-noon, and students will then be released early. Attendance is mandatory.

Students get pledges from friends, neighbors and family, to reach their goal of raising $150 each. La Salle’s Vice President for Advancement, Steve Day, is coordinating the event, and is optimistic about how much will come in.

There is also a school wide goal of raising $105,000. Although Day has high hopes the school will reach this mark, he admits, “The goal was pretty ambitious.” If students raise the set goal, their reward will be having an extra day off of school sometime in the spring. As of Thursday afternoon, the total amount raised was approximately $70,000. However, Day also noted that for fundraisers of this type, “normally most of the money comes in toward the end.”

The money raised in the Walkathon will benefit all La Salle students. A majority of the money goes to provide financial aid for those students who would otherwise not have access to the quality education available at La Salle.

The remaining money will be used to put another a la carte station in the cafeteria and replace old benches in the courtyards.

The announcement of the Walkathon was at the end of last year, so over the summer, many students got a head start on raising the $150 required. Now that the deadline is coming fast, the remaining students who haven’t brought in money are expected to be working to finish fundraising. Day says that with regard to getting the money collected, “the biggest problem we’ve had is students understanding the timeline.” Students who have not brought in their money yet need to turn it in to their Falcon Formation teacher ASAP.

A special dress code will be in effect for the Walkathon, with athletic clothing allowed. This includes athletic shorts (basketball or running), tank tops, t-shirts, sweat pants, yoga pants, hats. Just tights, spandex shorts, tank tops with spaghetti straps, crop tops with bare midriffs, or any clothing that is inappropriate or immodest is not allowed.

Remember that Friday morning when students report to their Falcon Formation classroom is the last time to bring money in.

For any students who still need to get started, they can use https://2015-walkathon.everydayhero.com/us/sign-up to create an account and then send emails or post to Twitter or Facebook to raise money online.
