Sophomore Amelia Todd loves being outdoors and doing activities such as hiking and biking.
Todd thoroughly enjoys art and has been practicing it since fifth grade.
“It’s my passion,” she said. “I draw every single day.”
Her passion for art has led her to the Makerspace, where she spends the majority of her time working on projects, including paper mache sculptures and a stuffed manta ray.
Todd is inspired by her parents in her day-to-day life. Her in-school role models would be French teacher Ms. Amanda Barker, English teacher Mr. Greg Larson, and Director of STEAM and innovation and design teacher Ms. Carie Coleman.
“They’re really energetic,” she said. “They make the class fun and engaging, but they also definitely try to challenge us.”
Todd is heavily involved with extracurricular activities. She spends a lot of time in the Makerspace and runs the Griddle Club. Todd and Ms. Coleman revived the club this year after it was disbanded a year prior.
For middle school, Todd went to St. John the Apostle Catholic School, where she went on countless field trips that she really enjoyed. She still keeps in touch with about eight of her friends from middle school.
Todd grew up in Salem, and currently lives in Canby.
In athletics, Todd currently plays tennis for La Salle, and she is also hoping to join the swimming team as well as participate in cross country next year, which she had previous experience with.
Generally, she spends eight to 10 hours a week on sports, depending on the season and when practices are scheduled. Todd also says she spends an hour or two on homework every night. However, she’s accustomed to the workload and tries to complete assignments earlier in the day rather than let them pile up.
A few dream destinations for Todd are Africa, Brazil, Scotland, and the Faroe Islands.
Todd owns lots of pets. She has a dog named Theodore as well as 14 other pets, including chickens, bunnies, and a cat.
Todd adores animals and aspires to be a veterinarian — specifically an ornithologist — later in her life. She is also part of 4-H, a federal organization that focuses on leadership skills, agriculture, and service.
If Todd could live in any house, she would choose one that is not too big but not too small and has lots of land, teeming with lots of life, especially animals.
Todd’s musical taste varies widely, and she enjoys lots of different artists across many different genres. “My playlist is so chaotic,” she said. “It’s everywhere,” she said.
Todd has three younger siblings, whom she gets along with for the most part. However, due to them being far younger than her, she sometimes runs into challenges, as “I kind of have to be a bigger sibling,” she said.
Todd’s favorite book series is “The Hunger Games,” as she said “it has the right amount of adventure and action, and I think it’s perfect.”
