In a long-awaited matchup against their league rival, the varsity girls basketball team defeated the Wilsonville Wildcats with a score of 55-52 on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Celebrating not only their win over Wilsonville, who were previously undefeated in all of their league games, the Lady Falcons also recognized their seniors — Clara Hudson, Eva McCaffrey, Genna Olson Rocha, and Cadence Wooden — by honoring them before the game.
Early on in the first quarter, a La Salle player was seriously injured, putting a pause on the game before emergency services could arrive. As spectators waited to hear about her condition, the silence was broken as cheers and applause rang out for the injured player, waving to the crowd as she went out on a stretcher.
As players returned to the court to continue the game, the momentum was soon picked up again with both teams coming within only a few points of each other in the last quarter as the Falcons clinched the win in the final 20 seconds.
With only one league game left before playoffs, the varsity girls basketball team will be at Parkrose High School on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:15 p.m.
