On Friday, Feb. 9, the school gathered in the gym for an assembly commemorating Black History Month. Juniors Trey Williams and Vance Sheffield both spoke, along with Shefflield’s father, Children’s Cancer Association ambassador, co-chair, and biotech asset manager C.S. Sheffield.
These speakers shared their experience as part of the Black community, and C. S. Sheffield discussed the importance of recognizing Black excellence and making diversity – of race, but also ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives — a priority both in the La Salle community and society as a whole.
Planned, presented, and executed by senior Officers of Inclusion Ale Garcia and Amani Campbell, along with other Leadership students, the assembly also included a competition highlighting prominent Black artists. Songs by artists such as Young Thug, Frank Ocean, Drake, and Lauren Hill were played over the loudspeaker, and two students from each grade raced to grab a microphone and name them.
