La Salle’s girls and boys basketball made it to playoffs for 5A this season in hopes to bring in the state championship for both teams.
Boys Basketball:
On Monday, Feb. 26, the boys basketball team finished their regular season with a league record of 11-5 and overall record of 16-10. They closed out the season with a score of 71-52 against Centennial, putting them third in league behind Putnam and Wilsonville.
The team is now ranked #10 out of all 5A teams according to OSAA and will be competing against ranked #7 Redmond, whose league record is 10-5. The game will take place at Redmond High School at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2.
If they win this game it will send the boys to Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon for the rest of the state tournament.
“I feel like our team’s grown a lot since the start of the season,” senior Anders Bergler said. “We’ve definitely played more together now and have beaten teams that we didn’t think we’d beat at the start of the season, so I’m excited to see how far we can take it.”
Girls Basketball:
The La Salle girls basketball finished their season on Saturday, Feb. 24 against Sheldon High School at home. The game ended in a win with a score of 42-39. This put their final league record to 11-3 for the regular season.
The team is ranked second in league, behind Wilsonville High School and is ranked #11 out of the 31 teams in 5A.
The girls first playoff game will be on Saturday, March 2 against #6 South Albany High School. South Albany currently has a league record of 14-4 and is ranked third in their league. The game is at 5:00 p.m. at South Albany. If the girls basketball team wins this game, they will be heading to the state tournament at Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon.
Junior Mara Riehl is “super excited for playoffs because I feel like it’s an opportunity for everything we’ve worked for to come together and I think we can go really far,” she said.
