The reason junior Henry Stevenson says that he chose to come to La Salle is because he fell in love with the La Salle community that he felt after going on a tour given by Principal Ms. Alanna O’Brien when he was still attending St. Rose School.
Along with the community, Stevenson’s favorite thing about La Salle is “the smaller class sizes, so you can talk to your teachers one on one,” he said.
One of those teachers that he likes to talk to is Art Teacher Ms. Lakshmi Cha Asokan. His favorite teacher is Ms. Cha because she is a lot of fun and his favorite class is AP English III taught by Mr. Paul Dreisbach. This is his favorite class because he’s “ learning a lot,” he said. “It’s a really rigorous course though, but I’m enjoying it.”
Stevenson’s advice to anyone who is new to La Salle, is to “study hard because La Salle can be tough, but you get a lot out of it,” he said.
He spends a lot of time doing school, and school-related things such as being a member of the National Honor Society and being a peer tutor. He was only inducted into the National Honor Society this November, but it is what Stevenson finds as one of his greatest achievements, and something he is very proud of because he worked hard for it.
Outside of school, Stevenson has a job working at Two Brothers Moving, enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and likes spending time outside. “I like to ride my bike when the weather is nice out, especially with my friends,” he said.
Another thing Stevenson does outside of school is listen to many different types of music, which includes TV Girl – a band he recently saw in concert.
Participating in many activities within the La Salle community, along with getting better at reaching out to people, has led Stevenson to feeling that even though he came here not knowing many people, “there’s always someone to talk to,” he said.
Stevenson suggests that people “try a sport or try to get into a club” because it is a great way to find people interested in similar things and make new friends.
Following his own advice, Steveson played baseball freshman year, and from that experience he says that he has learned that “you can learn a lot from your experiences” he said. He is currently a part of the Makers club and Weightlifting club as well. Even though he is eager to participate on the boy’s volleyball team, he has been unable to participate so far due to lack of time, but Stevenson does plan on doing it in the future.
