La Salle Swim Team Competes at the State Level

16 swimmers competed in the state meet this past weekend after qualifying in nine different events at districts.

On Feb. 11-12, 16 members of La Salle’s swim team competed at Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center for the state meet after qualifying in the district meet

Freshman Rowan Mozena competed in the girls 100-yard breaststroke, placing 12th. Freshman Kayla Chapman competed in two different events, placing 5th in the 100-yard backstroke and 9th in the 200-yard freestyle.

Additionally, the boys 400-yard relay team — consisting of junior Nik Jelusic, junior Aidan McCarthy, junior Charlie Dougherty, and junior Emilio Silva — placed 10th, alongside the 200-yard freestyle relay team — consisting of Jelusik, McCarthy, Silva, and junior Robert Brotherton — which also placed 10th.

In the boys individual events, Jelusic placed eleventh in the 100-yard breaststroke and junior Emilio Silva placed ninth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Members of the La Salle swim team also competed in the 200-yard medley relay and girls 400-yard freestyle relay events. 

The girls 200-yard freestyle relay team — consisting of Chapman, freshman Caitlin Keeler, sophomore Rachel Yaskovic, sophomore Gabrielle Wolfe— placed fifth in their event, and the 400-yard freestyle relay — Chapman, Keeler, Yaskovic, and Wolfe — placed seventh, leading the La Salle girls swim team to finish 11th overall in the state with a total of six points.
