Boys Basketball Finishes League Play 9-5, Advancing to Playoffs
March 4, 2020
On Tuesday, March 3, the La Salle boys basketball team finished their regular season with a league record of 9-5. They closed out the season with a win over St. Helens High School with an ending score of 71-49, shattering their season record for most points in a single game.
The team ranked #14 in their district. They will compete against #3 Crater High School in their first play off game, which could potentially lead them to the state championship at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon.
This will be La Salle’s first time playing Crater this year. “We’re going to play hard and try not to turn the ball over,” junior Ryan Rosumny said.
According to sophomore Keean Edeline, the team’s goal moving forward is to break their pattern of losing in the first round of the playoffs. Freshman Keenan Tarbet said their focus is to “win the first round and go to [play at] Gill [Coliseum].”
Looking back on the season, many players feel that the team had its ups and downs. Edeline recalled the best moment of the season as “beating Sheldon [High School] on the road, a 6A team.”
Several players considered a low point of the season to be their loss to Milwaukie High School. Edeline said during the practice following the loss, there was “a lot of conditioning”.
Overall, the team is excited about the opportunity to compete in the state playoffs, as well as the future of the program. “I feel pretty good about next year,” Tarbet said. “We’re pretty much coming back with the same squad.”
Players are also confident in their chances of moving on to the state tournament in the coming years. “I’m excited for next year and the year when I’m a senior,” Edeline said.
