Clash Royale Review and Walkthrough: A Simple, Addicting Game

Sam Hull, Staff Reporter

There are a plethora of games to choose from on the App Store and the Google Game Store but by far the most addicting and enjoyable is Supercell’s Clash Royale. With a rating of 4.7 out of five stars on the App Store and over 100 million downloads on the Google Play Store, Clash Royale is one of, if not the best, games for mobile devices. Here’s an overview on everything you need to know about Clash Royale.

What is Clash Royale?

Clash Royale is a free (with in-app purchases) competitive card game in which players strategically duel against each other in epic 1 vs. 1 or 2 vs. 2 battles that completely suck the player in.

The goal of Clash Royale is to destroy the enemy’s towers before they can destroy yours. Whoever has destroyed more of the other side’s towers before time runs out wins. However, there are circumstances in which the game may end in a tie. If both sides have destroyed the same amount of towers at the end of a match the game goes into sudden death and an additional 60 seconds of overtime are added. Whoever destroys a tower first wins and if no towers are destroyed the game ends in a tie.

Being the fourth game to be released by the legendary game company Supercell, the creators of the wildly popular Clash of Clans, it is no shock that Clash Royale is so popular.

What’s so Fun About Clash Royale?

Clash Royale is incredibly enjoyable because it’s competitive; you want to win but you don’t always get to. That’s what I love about the game — sometimes I lose and every once and a while I end up going through losing sprees. That’s what makes it so addicting. I hate losing so I play until I’ve won.

Why Play Clash Royale?

You play Clash Royale so that you can win. The point of winning is so that you can get chests. Players want chests so that they can get more cards. Once you get enough cards you can upgrade your troops. You upgrade your troops so that you can win. Play, win, upgrade, repeat; it’s simple.

Why Play a Simple, Repetitive Game?

In short, Clash Royale is a difficult but simple game. What makes the game difficult is the fact that  you don’t win every time you play, it wouldn’t be fun if you did; the game would be too easy. This is what makes Clash Royale so addicting. You can lose when you play, and you lose a lot.

This is how the game sucks you in. Losing is frustrating, but winning is so gratifying, especially when you’re on a losing streak. Once you get enough of a card and you upgrade it, that also entices you to play more and more.

How Do You Win?

You win in Clash Royale by strategically picking and choosing cards that work well together.

For example, some people use a giant witch combo deck. This means that they use their giant as a kind of tank — it absorbs the blows from attacks while the witch defends the giant so that it may deal massive amounts of damage to the opponent’s towers.
