La Salle Students React to President Trump
January 27, 2017
Now that President Trump has finished his first week in office, there has been a lot of discussion about his political actions, and many people are wondering what the future of the country holds. To get a better idea of how the La Salle community is reacting to the new president, we asked a number of students for their thoughts. Here’s a sampling of their responses:
What do you personally think about President Trump? Tell us your opinion in the comments below!

@Ethan Khal No he is not a man of the people. If you cant see that im sorry. Id have to respectfully disagree with that whole statement. He is not for all people. He signed an order banning people from entering our country from other countries. If thats your Idea of him being for the people then you might want to reconsider your thoughts. He just signed a paper to build a pipe through MY tribes land and water supply. If anything goes wrong in construction you know how many people will die? Ive been back there on the reservation, Ive seen my brothers and sisters hurt. A woman from my tribe back in november during a PEACEFUL protest had to get her arm amputated because of a concussion grenade hitting her. He is NOT for the people but rather for HIMSELF. I will also add his idea of the wall is idiotic. He wants to make Mexico pay for it yet when the president found out he said his country would not. Whats he going to do about it? Tweet about it like normal? If you want to pay for the wall and pipeline be my guest but rather than building another pipeline he should help Flint Michigan and FIX their pipes rather than ruining others.

I think that Trump isn’t the best fit for president being how he has been restricting rights already, he signed an order to ban immigration from coming into the country that are from specific countries that don’t hold business with him. He has signed an order that has taken away federal funding from planned parenthood outside of America, effectively having the exact opposite of the intended affect. The fact that Trump, along with other US presidents have tried to force believes on others is worrying, because America was founded by rebels who didn’t wish to be held down by a higher power. “Those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it.” ~George Santayana. We don’t need a repeat of the American revolution or another war because Trump doesn’t play well with others. The only time I will respect anyone’s opinion is when it doesn’t disrespect anyone else’s exsistance. So no, I will not respect Trump until this happens.

@Ethan Khal He is a cisgendered, white, straight billionaire man leading a country where 9 million people identify as LGBTQ, 37% of the population are people of color, 79% of people are middle to lower income, etc etc. His ideology of running a country do not take into consideration the many marginalized groups in America and will certainly not help them.

I’m sorry Ethan, but I disagree that we have “nothing to fear”…explain that to one of my best friends who is Muslim and Iranian. If something happens to her family back in Iran, her mom can’t go back because when she returns, she’d be detained. So please, explain to POC, LGBT+ people, (pretty much anyone who isn’t Christian) that Trump is a “man of the people.” Just because a policy won’t affect you doesn’t mean it’s harmless. I respect that you have the right to your own opinion, but our community is already being affected negatively by Trump’s actions.
