Spring Sports Wrap Up

With spring sports finishing up, here’s a look back at how each of the teams did, as well as what to look forward to next year.
Track
According to: Regan Russell
What is the most popular event? The 4×100 and the 4×400 relays because they are fun to watch and they are at the beginning and ending of meets so everyone is around to watch.
Star athletes? Sprinters: Talya Holenstein, Philicia Robinson, Kyrne Li, and Parker Cardwell. Distance: Allison Warta and Raleigh Slyman. Pole Vault: Jason Waters and Theresa Tomashiro. Throwers: Ellie Low, Jake Brumbaugh, and Nick Carbone. Hurdles: Jordan Gloden. Relays: Sophie Griese and Sarah Minsker.
Biggest achievements? The girls 4×400 breaking the school record and making it to state. The girls 4×100 getting first in districts and making it to state. The girls impressive record of only one loss against Hillsboro. Kyrne Li making it to state in the open 400.
Biggest competition? Hillsboro because they ended up racking up more points than they did.
Who went to state? Sarah Minsker, Talya Holenstien, Philicia Robinson, Sophie Griese, Emma Herder, Regan Russell, Kyrne Li, Jordan Gloden, Nick Carbone, Parker Cardwell, Raleigh Slyman, Sean Hamel, and Teresa TamashiroÂ
How did they do? Sean Hamel finished second in Javelin and Jordan Gloden finished eighth in 110 high hurdles. Philicia Robinson placed sixth in the 200 meter dash and Talya Holenstein finished second in the 800 meter run. The girls 4 by 100 took home third place. The girls 4 by 400 broke the school record with a time of 3 minutes, 59.64 seconds while finishing in second place.
Most exciting thing that happened this season? The girls 4×400 beating the school record.
Boys Tennis
According to: Jordan Kersten and Lucas Michaels
How many wins/losses? 7-1
Who went to state? Senior Thomas Foy and his partner freshman Nico Hey won the district tournament and went to state.
How did they do? Thomas Foy and Nico Hey placed second in state.
Hardest competition? Sandy because they have a good program and are very skilled players.
How will the team be next year? The team will continue to be very strong next year since freshman Nico Hey will be a big help to the team. He is a very strong player with a lot of potential to continue to get better.
Who will be in the top spots next year? Current freshman Nico Hey will be number one singles. Number one doubles is yet to be determined.
Star players? Freshman Nico Hey is a very skilled player and has been playing for a long time. He has a lot of potential to continue to grow and further improve his skills.
Most exciting thing that happened this season? Going to districts and not only playing but supporting the team and cheering on those who were able to make it to state.
Girl’s Tennis:
According to: Olivia Kiesz and Kelsey Harris
How many wins/ losses? 5-3
Who went to districts? Seniors Terasa Olarte, Caitlin Lee, Hannah Price, Lexi Carbone, Kate Arp, Rose Adkisson, and Riley Walton. Juniors Olivia Kiesz, Jamie Loeffl, Lauren Lamey, and Claire Brinkman. Sophomore Sabrina Sandberg. Â
Hardest competition? Wilsonville because many members of the team have been playing tennis all their life. They are very smart and consistent players.
How will the team be next year? A lot of seniors are graduating so there will be a fresh start next year. The team members will be young and developing players.
Who will be in the top spots next year? Current juniors Olivia Kiesz and Jamie Loeffl will be the new number one doubles team. Current junior Rachel Primack will continue to be the number one singles player.
Boy’s Lacrosse:
According to: Boone O’neil
How many wins/ losses? 4-10
Hardest competition? Sherwood because they had a lot of talented players.
How will the team be next year? Better than last year since a lot of teams are graduating their seniors and La Salle is just losing one senior starter.
Is the team growing or shrinking? Growing because they had a lot of new players join the team this year. A lot of people wanted to try a new sport for the first time.
Star players? Tyler Persons because he is one of the main scorers. Quentin Pearson because he is an all around skilled player. John Stafford because he is the best defense man on the team. Â
Most exciting thing that happened this season? When they beat Putnam 15-5. This was an unexpected win. There were lots of shots made and everyone played really well.
Baseball:
According to: Dylan Degeneres and Jacob Lyver
How many wins/ losses? 11-4 in league playÂ
Hardest competition? Putnam because they lost against them twice and only got one hit in that series.
How will the team be next year? The team won’t be greatly affected next year since they are only graduating two seniors and there will be a lot of returning starting players.
Any homeruns? Junior Ole hit a homerun this season against Sandy.
Star players? Dylan Degeneres because he has pitched really well this season. Ole because he has been hitting the ball everywhere and can’t get out. Matt Niebergall because he hit the ball really well this season and always made the needed plays. Levi because he has been hitting the ball well and not making any errors at shortstop. Both Matt and Levi are humble about what they do and lead by example.
Most exciting thing that happened this season? The game against Liberty when they were down going into the bottom of the 7th inning and coming back to win it with a walk off single by Dylan Degeneres.
Softball:Â
According to: Nicole Schrieber
How many wins/ losses? 8 wins and 4 losses
Hardest competition? Putnam because they won state last year and have really tough pitching and have good hitters.
How will the team be next year? The team next year will be just fine since they already have good chemistry that will only get better as they play together.
Any homeruns? Senior Nicole Schreiber has four, junior Jaden Gloden has two, sophomore Megan Lyver has two, and freshman Kiriahna Edeline has one.
Star players? Sophomore Hannah Sisul can always make something happen when she is up to bat and is very reliable on the field and also received first team all league. Freshman Kiriahna is really stepping up on the field and leaving a strong impression. Senior Nicole Schreiber is solid in the infield and is a leader. She also has had the most home runs and she is good under pressure as well as continuously putting the ball in play and get first team all league along with Hannah.
Most exciting thing that happened this season? They camped out at La Salle and bonded as a team and then the next morning held a softball clinic for younger girls.
Girl’s golf:
According to: Brooke Eilerson
Best place in a tournament? 2nd
Hardest competition? Wilsonville because the number one player in the district is on their team.
How will the team be next year? It’s going to be a very young team but have a strong foundation of a few girls who have one year of experience on the team but years of playing before. It will be interesting to see how their success varies from this year.
Star player? Hannah Scruggs because she is the only one from the team to make it to state.
How did state go? It was a disappointing way to end the season but she she was proud of herself for making it that far. She put so much time and effort into this sport.
Most exciting thing that happened this season? When the girls and boys golf team won minute to win it games in the spring sports assembly.
Boy’s golf:
According to: Connor Denning
Best place in a tournament? 1st place
Hardest competition? Wilsonville because they have a lot of advanced players.
How will the team be next year? Just as good if not better since three of the top six members will be returning, they are: Matt Werner, Niko Evans, and Connor Denning. They are looking forward to improve for next year. The JV team is also working very hard to get better this summer so that they will be able to contribute to the team in the upcoming spring.
Star players? Matt Werner because he had the lowest scoring average on the team and vastly improved from last year due to his hard work and dedication. Alex Yeo because he is a senior leader and was the one that they all looked up towards at regionals and state because he played very well. Â
How did they do at state? They didn’t do as well as planned for but they worked hard as a team to get to state.
Most exciting thing that happened this season? The second day at regionals. They had the amazing opportunity to go as a team and spend a few nights in Corvallis. They had a blast and were able to bond as a team.

I’m going to miss playing with Nicole next year because she is one of our best players and leaders!
