Boys Golf: Living on the Greens All the Way to State
May 12, 2016
The boys varsity golf team is headed off to state. After a successful finish at the district competition, the boys will compete in the state championships next week.
Individual success has shown in the numbers. Matt Werner, sophomore, is individually ranked in the top ten with an average score of 76.4 and is looking forward to state. “I have nothing to lose, but everything to gain,” Werner said. He also had the top individual score in multiple of the regular season matches.
This season, all boys on varsity get to go to state. This is important because this is the last chance for the seniors to go before they graduate. Alex Yeo, senior, went to state last season because he qualified individually. Getting to go to state with all the other members is his favorite part because “it’s much more exciting to go as a team.”
Jack Miller, senior, is presented with his last opportunity to do well at state. He’ll miss “hitting the perfect shot or making a clutch putt,” he says. “There is no other feeling quite like it.”
Niko Evans, junior, hopes that they will have success at state for “one last horrah before we say goodbye to the seniors.” He also expresses his hope for the incoming players next season. “The team will be getting some new talent next year that should help us be even more successful.”
State will take place next week on May 16th and 17th at the Trysting Tree Golf Club down in Corvallis. La Salle can’t wait to hear about the team’s success when they return. Go Falcons!
