Photo Feature: The Girls Ski Team Is Headed to State
February 24, 2016
As spring approaches, winter sports seasons are coming to a close, including the girls ski team. With the girls’ regular season races now over, they earned 5th place in their league, which gives them a berth into the state competition. This year’s state competition will be held at Mt. Ashland in southern Oregon March 3rd through 4th.
The girls competed every weekend in the Three Rivers League on Mt. Hood and accumulated points throughout the season. Out of the 8 teams in the league, the top 5 teams advance to state competition and the girls (freshman Clara Macedo, sophomore Emily Miller and junior Zoe Jones) ended the season in 5th place.
The girls will be racing in southern Oregon at Mt Ashland, which is about 9 miles from the city of Ashland and only a few miles north of the California border. The first day of state the girls will be racing Slalom which involves tight, quick turns and on the second day they will be racing Grand Slalom where the turns are wider and the race is overall faster. The two types of racing test every skill that a good racer must have to post a low time.
Here is a slideshow of some of the action from the past season:
