Divergent Author Veronica Roth Comes to La Salle

Katie Kell, Staff Reporter

As you may have seen posted on the walls and spoken over the intercom, award winning author of the Divergent series, Veronica Roth, is coming to La Salle on Tuesday, March 1st. She will not only be talking about her bestselling books and upcoming movie, but signing books and answering questions coming from our students. And for students who didn’t get their pre-order completed in time, books will be available to be purchased and signed at the event.

According to Ms. Poteet, Roth is coming to La Salle on her own accord. Her publicist called La Salle to say that Roth’s tour would be coming to schools all around the United States and that La Salle was lucky enough to be one of the schools on the list. The only stipulation, Roth’s publicist said, is that taking candid pictures of Roth during the event is okay, but she has asked for there to be no posed pictures or requests for selfies with Roth.

“I was so very fortunate,” Ms. Poteet explained when asked how she managed to get Veronica Roth to come to La Salle. “I did not solicit her to come at all. The woman who does community marketing at Barnes and Noble called me … and offered us the chance for her to come.”

“We are lucky enough to be one of the schools she’s visiting,” Ms. Poteet continued. Roth is currently on a tour to promote her books and upcoming movie “Allegiant” that will be in theaters on March 9th. On this tour “she is doing book promotions just to schools” Ms. Poteet said, which makes this an even more special event.

If you enjoyed the Divergent series or have any interest in learning more about the writing process, then make sure to come to the library after school on March 1st. Some teachers are willing to give out extra credit and it also counts toward LEAP credit. La Salle is excited that Veronica Roth has chosen our school and can’t wait to take a step into the Divergent world.
