Who knew cornrows were good luck? The La Salle girls soccer team and their ubiquitous braids made it all the way to the state championship game this past Saturday, earning a second-in-state finish.

The team beat Wilsonville in the quarterfinals and then advanced to win against Bend in the semifinals, landing them the opportunity to compete in the state championship game. Then, this past Saturday, November 14th, they faced Summit at the Hillsboro Stadium in the state finals.

The first half started out well, and with good possession and hard work, the team made it to a 0-1 halftime score. In the second half, however, La Salle was unable to stop a series of goals, leading to a 7-0 final score, but still bringing home a 2nd place trophy to make the school proud.

“It’s a great accomplishment to have made it as far as we did this year,” sophomore Megan Lyver says. “Since we’re a young team, we have a lot of potential and I can’t wait to see what the next few years will be like.”

Summit is an extremely good team that ended the season ranked #1 in 5A, and they tied the only game that they didn’t win this year against a 6A school. The La Salle girls stayed thankful to be able to make it to the state championships this year and be able to take on this journey.

“We fought hard and it was a tough loss, but the hardest part is leaving the team,” senior Regan Russell said. “I’ve made so many friendships and memories with this group of girls and they made my senior year the best. I’m excited to see how well they do next year.”
